Fort Walton Beach
Fort Walton Beach is a coastal community in the Northwest ‘Panhandle’ of Florida, bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and Santa Rosa Sound to the south, and the Choctawhatchee Bay and Cinco Bayou to the north.
Located in Okaloosa County, the greater Fort Walton Beach area has a small-town atmosphere that includes five adjacent communities, Mary Esther, Shalimar, Ocean City, Wright, and Cinco Bayou, each having their own distinctive charm.
Okaloosa Island is a narrow three-mile barrier island between the cities of Fort Walton Beach and Destin, Florida. The ’Island’ has some of the best beachfront condominiums on the Gulf of Mexico, as well as residential (detached) homes and townhomes located on the Santa Rosa Sound.
The City of Fort Walton Beach boasts nationally top-ranked public schools and charter schools with a low teacher to student ratio. Schools are a part of our neighborhoods, as many are linked by fitness trails, sidewalks and public parks.
The local economy is driven by two primary factors: Tourism and the Military. Our military neighbors include Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field, with additional military units at the Coast Guard Station, Destin, the 919th Special Operations Wing at Duke Field, and the 7th Special Forces Group at Eglin.
The tourism industry is seasonal, with summer being the primary season and a smaller peak season during spring break. In winter-time, Fort Walton Beach has a large ‘snowbird’ population. Our snowbirds also enjoy their time here, and have created a great place to gather at the Fort Walton Beach Snowbird Club.
The locally-owned and operated businesses enjoy affordability and amenities which embody the city’s commitment to providing a positive business climate where companies grow and flourish.
